What is the total production of wine in France divided by red and white wine ?
Question submitted by David Emunah

In 2009, the total wine production in France was 46 million hectoliters (about 3.5 billion bottles).

The worldwide wine production is around 270 millions hectoliters (a little bit more than 20 billion bottles).

1 hectoliter = 100 liters = 26.42 US gallons

In 2004 the total wine production in France was 49 million hectoliters, roughly 4 billion bottles of wine.

26 million hectoliters of AOVDQS, AOC and higher:

  •  17.5 million red wine (including rosé)
  •  8.5 million white wine
  •  23 million hectoliters of vin de table and vin de pays
  •  18.2 million red wine (including rosé)
  •  4.8 million white wine
