What is the name of the quality control body in France ?

Question submitted by Harsh Joshi

There are two control quality offices in France. And in top of that each local wine appellation can initiated an internal wine quality control to raise the quality of its wines.

The control of quality of the wine in France depends of the classification grade the wine belongs to :

- Vin de table: no specific quality control, wine is under european regulation.

- Vin de Pays : there is a quality control initiated by VINIFLHOR (Office National Interprofessionnel des Vins). This office recently replaced the former Onivins office.

- AOVDQS : the wine is controled by the INAO office (Institut National des Appellations d’Origine). The regulation is in between Vin de Pays and AOC.

- AOC : all the wines are strictly regulated and controled by the INAO office. The control quality is stronger than for Vin de Pays or AOVDQS wines.
